Welcome to this Program of Research that began in Greater Moncton, New Brunswick using Photovoice, a participatory action research method.
In Phase I (2005-2007) single mothers carried out a community health assessment. Themes of violence, abuse and economics emerged as integrated concepts that greatly impact on their health and quality of life. Partial funding through UNB's University Research Fund (URF).
This led to Phase II (2007-2010) focusing on lone mothers who have left relationships where they experienced Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and their journey to a sustainable livelihood. Three-year funding for Phase II was provided through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)
Phase III was carried out in Guatemala (2010-2011). The focus was on understanding women's experiences with violence in rural and urban areas of Chimaltenango. Partial funding through the University Research Fund (URF).
