The objective of the Industry-Government Services
division is to maximize UNB's input into sustainable economic development
in New Brunswick and beyond through the development and transfer
of technology and knowledge. The office facilitates access
to UNB for those who wish to tap into its knowledge base and
research capabilities.
The two main functions of this division are opportunity development
and technology and knowledge transfer. The activities of the
division are guided by the ideas that:
-
UNB has a role in supporting industry, government, and
others, which may lead to sustainable economic development
for New Brunswick, Atlantic Canada, and beyond;
-
UNB's skills and facilities are being underutilized in
this respect, and greater utilization of these assets would
provide intellectual and financial benefits;
-
faculty members have the desire to use their skills to
this end; and
-
these activities must be consistent with the teaching
and research objectives of UNB.
The strategy of the Industry-Government Services
division is to:
-
rapidly process requests received from faculty, staff, potential clients,
and partners and supply follow up support services;
-
expand the number of faculty participants;
-
identify research funding opportunities and research
collaboration opportunities;
-
maintain open, regular communications with our clients
and partners in order to remain abreast of their development
strategies and to plan supporting activity accordingly;
and
-
develop more effective identification of technologies
with commercialization potential, and to expedite their
transfer to industry, preferably in New Brunswick.
Industry-Government Services provides support to faculty
and staff on both campuses who are seeking research funding.
Among the services offered are: providing advice and assistance
to faculty and staff on all matters related to grant and contract
proposal preparation and submission; assisting faculty and
staff in building innovative team responses to community/client
demands; and supporting technology and knowledge transfer.
Industry-Government Services hosts clients and prospective
clients who have R&D needs that might be satisfied within
the university and endeavours to match the research needs
of industry and government to the research capabilities of
UNB.
Industry-Government Services supports technology and knowledge
transfer at UNB by evaluating technology and knowledge-transfer
opportunities, identifying potential partners, and developing
mutually beneficial collaborations between UNB researchers
and government or private industry partners. In short, ORS
provides UNB researchers and staff with integrated services
involving all areas of intellectual property and commercialization. |
