Alligatorfish (Aspidophoroides monopterygius)
A monopterygius distribution.The alligatorfish (Aspidophoroides monopterygius) is the only member of the Agonidae family commonly found off the New Brunswick coast.
Little is known about the habits of this small bodied fish. They are commonly collected at depths ranging from 18-332 meters and regularly occur on sedimentary bottoms ranging in size from soft mud to pebbles. Based on their stomach contents alligatorfish prey mostly on small crustaceans, while the Atlantic cod acts as their most significant predator.
