Arctic Char, Salvelinus alpinus
Arctic char are trout-like in body shape. Their colour ranges from olive to brown on its back, and lack the vermiculations characteristic of brook trout. Their sides lighten to a cream or white belly. Spots on their sides can vary from a cream to pink-orange colour and are not surrounded by a bluish ring. Breeding males can have a brilliant red colouration, while sea run individuals are generally silvery. An adipose fin is present and the caudal is forked but not deeply. The leading edge of the pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins are whitish.
