iTrust - PST2007: Atlantic Summit 2007

IFIPTM 2007
Joint iTrust and PST Conferences on Privacy, Trust Management and Security

Atlantic Summit 2007

The first day of IFIPTM 2007 will feature the ‘Atlantic Privacy and Security Summit 2007’ (Monday, July 30, 2007) designed to bridge the gap between the research and technology being undertaken at universities and research organizations and the practical needs of industry. The summit will provide an opportunity for researchers to meet industry leaders to discuss information and communications technology (ICT) topics of current operational interest including emerging technologies, research directions and best practices facing all sectors of the economy (Telecommunications, Financial Services, Healthcare, Public Safety, Government, Education, Energy, Environment, Gaming, Military, and other sectors). While we encourage the private sector to attend the whole conference we draw your particular attention to the Atlantic Privacy and Security Summit agenda which includes a major keynote address; speakers identifying the barriers to widespread

adoption of the latest ICT trends, challenging researchers to address these important issues; and a panel of experts (including some of the world-class researchers attending ICMB 2007) examining how industry and the research community can collaborate as a cluster - industry, education, and research - to address the technical, legal and social barriers identified throughout the day. The Summit concludes with a networking reception and the official opening of the IFIPTM 2007 conference.

ATLANTIC PRIVACY & SECURITY SUMMIT - 2007
“Opportunities for Atlantic Canada companies”

When: Monday, July 30th, 2007
Noon - 5:30 pm (reception to follow)
Where: Delta Beauséjour Hotel
750 Main Street
Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada

From identity theft to privacy compliance, from viruses to online financial fraud
and inappropriate use of personal information, security and privacy issues have
become top-level concerns for numerous businesses, organizations, and
government. The need to address security and privacy issues is being viewed by
both business and government as a critical driver of competitive advantage and
innovation in the knowledge economy. Senior-level managers share these
concerns as it is only with commitment from management together with the
appropriate technology, processes, and procedures that these issues can be
managed.

The National Research Council Canada - Institute for Information Technology is
pleased to collaborate with the University of New Brunswick and IFIP
(www.ifip.org) to bring you the Atlantic Privacy and Security Summit 2007. This
unique one-day event will present prominent keynote speakers and expert
panelists who will share their thoughts on the challenges but also opportunities
surrounding security and privacy issues in a borderless world. A highlight of the
summit will be the keynote address by Dr. Jonathan Cave, RAND Europe.

Dr. Jonathan Cave is a game theorist and regulatory economist. He is a senior
economist at RAND Europe (www.rand.org/randeurope, an independent think
tank), and senior lecturer in economics at the University of Warwick. He is a
founding member of the Brussels Chapter of the Club of Rome and co-founding member of the Center for Ethical Identity Assurance. He was trained at Yale, Cambridge and Stanford universities, and formerly worked for the Bank of England, the US Federal Trade Commission and the Universities of Illinois and
California.
