JOINT NEWS RELEASE - STATUS OF AUNBT/UNB COLLECTIVE BARGAINING FOR CONTRACT ACADEMIC INSTRUCTORS AND LIBRARIANS

February 8, 2010
UNB News Release: 10-116
Dan Tanaka, Communications & Public Affairs Manager (506) 648-5697

The Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers (AUNBT) and the University of New Brunswick continue to negotiate for a first collective agreement for UNB's nearly 550 contract academic instructors and librarians.

Negotiations have resulted in agreement on several issues while others remain outstanding. Both parties wish to continue discussions.

On Feb. 5, 2010 the AUNBT applied to the Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour to appoint a conciliator to help the parties conclude negotiations.

AUNBT and UNB share the goal of supporting the communities around us and of making UNB a better place to study and work.

While negotiations continue, UNB's contract academic instructors and librarians remain without a contract.

AUNBT's contract academic instructors and librarians are one of two AUNBT bargaining groups currently negotiating with UNB for a new collective agreement. AUNBT's full-time academic employees represent 600 full-time teachers, researchers and librarians. The two groups negotiate as separate and distinct bargaining groups.

UNB and the AUNBT have agreed that any contact with the media will be by way of joint statements during the course of negotiations.
