DAVID MACLEAN TO CHAIR MODEL FOREST NETWORK

November 10, 2006
UNB Fredericton News Release: D868
Natalie Montgomery, Communication Officer (506) 453-4990

David MacLean, dean of forestry and environmental management at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, has been elected chair of the Canadian Model Forest Network. His one-year term begins immediately.

During his term, Dr. MacLean will oversee the transition of the Canadian Model Forest Network to an independent organization. The Canadian Forest Service managed the network throughout its first 15 years.

The Canadian Model Forest program officially ends March 31, 2007. Natural Resources Canada, which initiated the model forest program in 1992, is bringing in a new Forest Communities Program on April 1, 2007.

“I am pleased to accept this position, to help the 11 model forests across Canada develop a more effective national presence, and to interact with the Canadian Forest Service in helping to deliver its new Forest Communities Program,” said Dr. MacLean.

Dr. MacLean is president of the Fundy Model Forest and has been serving as interim chair of the Canadian Model Forest Network since April when the network applied for incorporation as an independent organization.
