CALL CENTRE WORKERS SUBJECT OF UNBF LECTURE

October 27, 2006
UNB Fredericton News Release: D781
Sandra Howland, Manager, Ceremonies, Events and Community Outreach (506) 458-7968

Call centre workers and union organizing is the topic of a lecture to be held at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton on Thursday, Nov. 2.

Hosted by the Community-University Research Alliance, the presentation will be held at 4 p.m. in Room 5 of Tilley Hall on the UNBF campus. All are welcome to attend.

Julie Guard, a professor in the labour studies program at the University of Manitoba, is the guest speaker. Dr. Guard will discuss her research on union organizing drives in the booming Manitoba call centre industry. She suggests that female service sector workplaces need different organizing strategies than those once used successfully with male industrial workers.
