The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) has announced the CCAA National Scholar Award recipients for the 2005-2006 season, and seven students from the University of New Brunswick Saint John have been chosen to receive this award.
The award recipients are Robert Munroe, Volleyball, from Saint John; Alan Rivers-Bowerman, Basketball, from Clifton Royal, New Brunswick; Kate Hamilton, Soccer, and Jennifer Porter, Badminton, both from Saint John; Jennifer Taylor, Volleyball, from Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia; Jenna Bowen, Soccer, from Millbrook, Ontario; and Erin Holtz, Soccer, from Ottawa.
“We are extremely proud of these student athletes,” said David Munro, Director of Athletics, Recreation & Wellness. “These students are able to excel at their chosen sport, and also achieve high marks in their academic studies.”
The National Scholar Award is designed to recognize the outstanding academic accomplishments of CCAA student-athletes. To achieve this honour, a student-athlete must achieve a GPA standing of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent in their current academic year. From last year’s 102 CCAA member-institutions, 705 students were awarded the prestigious honour in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence.
The CCAA is the national governing body for college sport in Canada, providing high-level competition through intercollegiate sport that recognizes excellence in academics and athletics.
