Stakeholder Consultation
A principal focus of consultations related to the preparation
of the UNB Land Management Strategy (LMS) was to gain input on the
future planning for the UNB Woodlot. These consultations were
prefaced with a presentation provided by the LMS team which
highlighted emerging concepts including:
a) designating a significant portion of the Woodlot as a conservation
area for purposes of teaching, research, community recreation;
b) provide a public trail network as a component of the conservation
area to link into the Fredericton and regional trail system;
c) designating sensitive areas within the conservation area
as ecological reserves with limited public access;
d) identifying areas of the Woodlot suitable for incremental
development over time, on a leasehold basis, for the purpose
of establishing a revenue stream to support an endowment fund;
and,
e) to seek replacement lands within reasonable proximity of
the Fredericton campus for forestry purposes including teaching,
research and endowment purposes.
