Setup Wireless

NOTE: The first time you connect to Wireless@UNB, you may be prompted with the following warning:

Windows 7 Warning

This is a normal warning for Windows 7. You may click 'Connect' safely. This warning should only appear the first time you connect to Wireless@UNB.

System Requirements to access the wireless network

  • An 802.11b, 802.11g or 802.11a wireless card with a driver that supports WPA.

Instructions:

Step 1: Configure your network profile

  • From the Start Menu, open the 'Control Panel' and choose the 'Network and Internet' link.

  • From the left-hand menu, select 'Manage Wireless Networks'.

  • IF Wireless@UNB already appears in the list, right click it and select 'Remove network'. Next, click the 'Add' button.

  • Choose 'Manually Create a Network Profile'.

  • In the window that appears, enter the following:
    • Network Name: 'Wireless@UNB'
    • Security Type: 'WPA-Enterprise'
    • Encryption Type: 'TKIP'

Check the box to start the connection automatically Then click 'Next'.

  • In the new window, select 'Change Connection Settings'.

  • Select 'Advanced settings'. Make sure the 'Specify authentication mode' box is checked and 'user authentication' is selected, then press 'OK'.

  • Select 'Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)' as the authentication method from the dropdown box.

  • Click 'Settings'. Check the 'Validate server certificate' box and the 'GeoTrust Global CA' box. Under 'Select Authentication Method', select 'Secured password (EAP-MSCHAPv2)' then click 'Configure...'.

  • Make sure the 'Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)' box is unchecked then click 'OK'.

  • Click 'Ok' or 'Finish' to all windows to save the settings.

Step 2: Connect to the Network

Method 1 - If you are within range of our wireless network access points, a balloon should appear above the system tray allowing you to enter your UNB Login ID and Password to connect to the Network (this may take a minute or more).

Method 2 - If you click the wireless icon, a list with the available networks will appear:

- Select 'Wireless@UNB' then click 'Connect'.

Connect

Either method of connecting will bring up the Network Authentication login window. Enter your UNB LoginID and Password into the appropriate fields then click 'OK'.

You should now be connected to Wireless@UNB.
