Protect yourself and protect UNB

The University of New Brunswick has launched an online course to help improve awareness about IT dangers such as malicious software, hackers and more.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in the course in order to learn more about protecting their online identities and personal information from cyber criminals and other groups.

This course is also designed to help faculty and staff protect sensitive or confidential university information.

Online course

This course is available in theDesire2Learn (D2L) Learning Management System. Simply go to the myUNB Portal and click on the IT Security Awareness Course link under the ‘My Courses’ and ‘No Term’ headings.

Note: If you don’t see the IT Security Awareness Course under No Term, click on the IT Security Awareness Course link in Free Courses. On the next page, choose enroll and you’ll be given access to the course.

Topics covered in the course include:

  • How to recognizing phishing e-mails
  • How to protect your devices from viruses, Trojans and other forms of malicious software
  • How to create a strong password

This course was developed by UNB in partnership with universities across Canada.

The course is participation only – there is no final test or mark. Simply complete each module and the short quizzes and you’ll be done. You can complete the entire course at once or complete various sections in the order and at the time of your choice.

The course normally takes between 45 minutes and one hour to complete.
