Adding Content to your Site

Note: In order to have access to add content to your site, you must be connected to the UNB Network directly or through UNB’s Virtual Private Network (VPN).  If you require assistance using the VPN, please contact the IT Service Desk.

Once you have created content, you can add it to your site using Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) through such programs as WinSCP for Windows, Filezilla for Windows and Mac, or any other SFTP client.  A default “index.html” page will be created for you within the "public_html" folder on your first login. NOTE: Content must go within this "public_html" folder to be viewable from the web.

To access WinSCP (Windows only):

  1. Go to ‘Start’ > ‘All Programs’.
  2. Scroll to the ‘WinSCP’ folder and open it.
  3. Double-click ‘WinSCP’ to open the program.
  4. Enter the following information:
    Host name: www2.unb.ca
    Port number: 22
User name: Your UNB Login ID
    File protocol: SFTP
    Password: Your UNB password
  5. Click 'Login' to finish.

To access Filezilla (Mac and Windows):

  1. Download the FileZilla Client recommended for your operating system from the FileZilla website.
  2. Once installed,  open the program and enter the following information:
    Host: www2.unb.ca
    Username: Your UNB Login ID
    Password: Your UNB password
    Port: 22
  3. Click ‘Quickconnect’ to finish.

Accessing Your Professional Page

Once content is uploaded to your site it will be viewable on the web at the following address: http://www2.unb.ca/~loginid where “loginid” is your UNB Login ID.

Everyone at UNB is entitled to a personalized web address that you can use to redirect people to a professional webpage of your choosing, such as your UNB professional page or an external site like your Facebook or LinkedIn profile. Addresses are in the form of http://people.unb.ca/~loginid or http://people.unb.ca/~name.name (if you have claimed a name.name email address).

To set up your UNB web address  redirect (this is required):

  1. Go to UNB's “Add a Website to your Phonebook Entry” tool and enter the website address you wish to direct people to (e.g. your UNB Professional Page address from above, or another address such as your Facebook profile page address).
  2. Click ‘Continue’.
  3. You can now use http://people.unb.ca/~loginid or http://people.unb.ca/~name.name to access your professional page.

Should you want your people.unb.ca address to point to a different website, you can return to the “Add a Website to your Phonebook Entry” tool at any time and update your website address.
