Create Professional Webpages
ITS provides a server on which faculty and staff can host web pages for their university related professional or academic work. This service is also available to university related organizations and research groups.
Requesting a Professional Page Account for Yourself
- Login to UNB's Professional Page Hosting website with your UNB Login ID and Password.
- Accept the ‘Acceptable Use of Information & Communication Technology Policy’ to continue.
- Select “My own Professional Page” from the drop-down menu and click ‘Continue’.
- A message will be displayed informing you that your account has been created. Your professional page should now be available for use.
Requesting an Account for an Organization/Research Group
- Login to UNB's Professional Page Hosting website with your UNB Login ID and Password.
- Accept the ‘Acceptable Use of Information & Communication Technology Policy’ to continue.
- Select “An Organization/Research Group” from the drop-down menu.
- Fill out your organization’s name and the purpose of this web site in the spaces provided.
- Select the options you require from the available check boxes and press ‘Continue’. If you are unsure which options to choose, press ‘Continue’ and when you are contacted by the Web Operations Group they will assist you with the requirements for your site.
- If you select “Domain Name”, enter the domain name(s) you wish to use with your site. If you have already registered your domain names, the domain owner will need to be transferred to ITS before the site will be hosted.
Requests for Organization/Research Groups will be sent to the Web Operations Group for review. Requests are not reviewed immediately and may take up to two weeks to be processed. You will be notified via e-mail about the status of your request and may be contacted for additional information.
Adding Content to your Site
Once you have created content, you can add it to your site using Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) through such programs as WinSCP for Windows, Filezilla for Windows and Mac, or any other SFTP client. A default “index.html” page will be created for you on your first login.
To access WinSCP (Windows only):
- Go to ‘Start’ > ‘All Programs’.
- Scroll to the ‘WinSCP’ folder and open it.
- Double-click ‘WinSCP’ to open the program.
- Enter the following information:
Host name: www2.unb.ca
Port number: 22
User name: Your UNB Login ID
File protocol: SFTP
Password: Your UNB password - Click 'Login' to finish.
To access Filezilla (Mac and Windows):
- Download the FileZilla Client recommended for your operating system from the FileZilla website.
- Once installed, open the program and enter the following information:
Host: www2.unb.ca
Username: Your UNB Login ID
Password: Your UNB password
Port: 22 - Click ‘Quickconnect’ to finish.
Note: In order to have access to add content to your site, you must be connected to the UNB Network directly or through UNB’s Virtual Private Network (VPN). If you require assistance using the VPN, please contact the ITS Help Desk.
Accessing Your Professional Page
Once content is uploaded to your site it will be viewable on the web at the following address: http://www2.unb.ca/~loginid where “loginid” is your UNB Login ID.
