Program-Specific Admission Requirements
You do not need an English test score to apply to UNB undergraduate programs
International students who do not have a test score, or who still need to improve their English skills, may be accepted to an undergraduate program on the condition that they will complete full-time English Language training at UNB before starting their degree.
Conditional admission still enables students to obtain a study visa into Canada.
Advanced Standing/Transfer Credit:
International Baccalaureate (IB): Students who complete IB courses and achieve grades of 5, 6, or 7 may be eligible for advanced standing and/or transfer credit in the following subject areas: Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English, French, Geography, History, Math, and Physics. Advanced standing and/or transfer credit may also be granted for IB German on the Fredericton campus.
Advanced Placement (AP):
Students who complete AP courses and achieve grades of 3, 4, or 5 may be eligible for advanced standing and/or transfer credit the following subject areas: Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, English, French, History, Physics, and Spanish. Advanced standing and/or transfer credit may also be granted for AP Psychology and AP Human Geography on the Fredericton campus. Advanced standing and/or transfer credit may also be granted for AP Art History, AP German, and AP Statistics on the Saint John campus.
Other subjects:
Students who have successfully completed IB or AP courses in subject areas other than those listed above may apply to have those courses assessed for advanced standing and/or transfer credit on a case-by-case basis. Copies of official curricula will be required.
Please note: Courses in English as a Second Language (ESL) and/or other English language acquisition courses do not satisfy the Senior English Literature requirement. Elective groups are listed at the bottom of the page and click here for application deadlines.
What is my “Minimum Admission Average”?
UNB uses admission averages to evaluate high school students for admission to the University. The admission average use is the overall average of the high school grades achieved in the six courses required for admission to your selected program of study.
For those students who are taking required courses in the second semester of high school, and the grades for which are not available at the time of application, the prerequisite course (usually grade 11) will be used to make a grade estimate for the grade 12 course required for admission to your selected program of study. Please note that UNB does not accept 'mid-term' grades.
Electives are other courses (besides the required courses listed at the above website) that may be used toward your admission average. In the event that you have multiple elective courses that UNB considers acceptable and appropriate for the degree to which you are applying, UNB will choose the elective courses with the highest grades to consider toward your admission average.
Please note: Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to any program.
