Throughout the year, a great number of activities take place on campus and are advertised through the campus newspapers, on campus radio stations CHSR-FM 97.9 in Fredericton and CRSJ-FM 92.5 in Saint John, or on the UNB Website - What's Happening pages.

If your country has an organized student group on campus, you will find that various activites will be offered through this group.

The University has large recreational complexes, including gymnasiums on both campuses and a swimming pool in Fredericton.

As well as the many facilities on campus, Fredericton and Saint John offer other opportunities for recreation:

Library

Public Library in Fredericton and Saint John. Those who do not have a New Brunswick driver's licence or medicare card will have to purchase a 1-year membership for $20. Before the year is up the library will check if materials were all returned and will reimburse $15 of the membership. The Fredericton Public Library is located on Carleton Street and is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; and Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm. The library is closed on Sundays.

In Saint John, the main branch of the Saint John Free Public Library is located at One Market Square. There are also branches at the Lancaster Mall on the city's West Side and at 545 Westmorland Road on the East Side. Hours are Monday to Wednesday and Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; Thursday and Friday, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. The libraries are closed on Sundays. For more information call: 648-7220.

The Imperial Theatre and the Fredericton Playhouse

The Imperial Theatre in Saint John and the Playhouse in Fredericton offer a wide variety of musical and Theatre entertainment. Check their websites for upcoming events:

YMCA

In Fredericton, the YMCA building is located at 28 Saunders Street (Tel: 462-3000). In Saint John the YM-YWCA is located on Hazen Avenue. Sports lessons and other activities are offered througout the year. Both day and evening classes are available.

International Students' Associations

Because of the large number of international students on campus, several groups of students have been formed, as well as a Board of International Students, which coordinates all the groups. You will probably wish to join one of the groups. The groups have their own activities during the year and offer mutual support to members of their community. At the present time, the groups on campus are:

The International Student Advisor/CIDA Coordinator's office orient students throughout the year; a general orientation for all incoming international students takes place in September. Throughout the year information and orientation sessions are also held. The dates of these events are publicized in the Brunswickan (Student newspaper) and on posters. You are also encouraged to contact the International Student Advisor/CIDA Coordinator's office for information.
