Postal Information

In Fredericton, a Post Office is located on campus in the basement of the Old Arts Building. It is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Monday to Friday during the summer months and 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Monday to Friday during the winter months. The Main Post Office is downtown on Waggoners' Lane and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Stamps and money orders may be purchased at the Post Office.

In Saint John, a Post Office is located in the basement of Ganong Hall. It is open to students from 9:00 am to 10:30 am and from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday all year long.

Several mailboxes are located in various areas on both campuses and stamps can be purchased in stores throughout Fredericton and Saint John.

The cost of stamps varies, depending upon the destination and size or weight of the letter or parcel. There are different classes of mail available: Special Delivery and First Class. For letters and parcels going overseas, there are also Airmail and Surface rates. Check with the Post Office to find out the costs, which can vary a great deal.

Parcels and letters should be plainly marked with the name and address of the person to whom the mail is being sent, as well as your name and address. This must be done in case the mail cannot be delivered. The letter or parcel can then be returned to you.

When mailing parcels, be sure that the contents are wrapped in plain brown wrapping paper. This should go over any fancy wrapping paper, such as Christmas wrapping paper and that you may have used. Be sure your parcel is securely fastened before you mail it, and be sure it indicates where it is to go.

Telephone

The New Brunswick Telephone Company, Ltd. (NB Tel) can explain the charges for having a telephone connected or installed where you are living. They can be reached at 1-800-561-6283. You should check the rates and fees carefully to be sure that it is worth your while to have your own telephone.

Pay phones can be found in buildings throughout the campus and on streets downtown. Be sure to read the instructions carefully before you place a call. Some pay phones require you to deposit the money first, while others do not. Make sure you have the correct change required.

The telephone directory has detailed information at the front of the book as to how to dial properly, how to dial long distance, how to get a number that is not listed or how to have your phone repaired. The directory also contains a map showing the different time zones and giving the area codes for various countries, and parts of Canada and the United States. If you are unclear about anything, you should dial "0" for the Operator.

NOTE: You are responsible for all calls made on YOUR phone.

Fax

In Fredericton, there is a FAX machine in the basement of the Old Arts Building for students to use at a small cost.

In Saint John, there is a FAX machine in the Student Representative Council offices in the Thomas J. Condon Student Centre.
