What's Shad Valley?

Shad Valley is an exciting summer program designed especially for top students in Canada. The focus of the program is in three main areas:

  • Excellence and Leadership
  • Science and Technology 
  • Entrepreneurship

Shad Valley takes these three elements and combines them to form a challenging, exciting and educational experience.

Shad Valley is a program administered by Shad International. Working in partnership with business, education and other communities, Shad International is dedicated to the advancement of scientific and technological capabilities of youth, integrated with the development of their entrepreneurial spirit. Shad Valley is an award winning partnership involving ten host universities as well as hundreds of schools, students, companies and countless other organizations. The program has over 11,000 alumni across Canada and around the world.

Who is eligible to participate in Shad Valley?

Shad Valley is intended for outstanding students in grades 10, 11 and 12. Many students will have paid work terms with sponsoring organizations for the rest of the summer.

Where in the world is Shad Valley?

Shad Valley is hosted at 10 Canadian Universities each summer. The University of New Brunswick is proud to be one of the host campuses. While the Shads attend the program at UNB they will be staying in one of our residences. The lectures, workshops and guest speakers are located on campus. There are exciting tours and field trips scheduled for local and provincial sites.

When is Shad Valley?

The Shad Valley 2011 program begins on Sunday July 3 and will run until Friday July 29. Many of the Shads will then return to their sponsors to complete paid internships with their partnering organization for the rest of the summer.
