The Opportunity
Thought leadership is an important marketing tool for any business. It says you’re thinking proactively about the benefits you offer your customers, and it says you’re taking a thoughtful approach to consistently achieving excellence. But these days it’s harder than ever to make time for this important marketing tool.
Becoming an Ideas That Matter patron will allow your business to be associated with leading-edge research and meaningful dialogue related to your products, services or core values. It will give your organization the opportunity to demonstrate thought leadership in a way that reinforces your brand and builds your reputation in our community.
Background
At the University of New Brunswick, we’re in the business of thought leadership.
We have more than 225 years' experience shedding a bright light on the kind of issues and challenges that live at the heart of our province’s and our nation’s social values, cultural perceptions and political motivations. That means we are hard at work creating knowledge, stimulating discussion, and saying – hey, what’s next?
Today UNB can boast some of the country’s finest minds, each working hard to contribute to the relevant topics and resonant ideas that drive us.
That’s why we’ve put together Ideas That Matter. It's a high-impact lecture series designed to connect our community with that high-profile research – in a way that will stimulate discussion and dialogue, letting us all be thought leaders.
The Facts
The series was launched in 2011 in conjunction with the university's 225th anniversary celebrations and the 2011 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, co-hosted by UNB.
The 2011 series featured five lectures on topics ranging from the internet and sex in the lives of youth to the future of New Brunswick's forest industries. The series continues with two lectures per year, one each academic term (winter and fall) beginning in 2012.
Each topic in the Ideas That Matter Speaker Series is presented by a researcher from UNB's faculty of arts, in an historic or culturally relevant venue, either on campus or in the Fredericton community.
A Proven Success
Average attendance at the five lectures presented in 2011 was 130. The diversity of the topics attracted very different audiences — extending the reach of the series to about 600 individuals.
The series also received tremendous media coverage. All five speakers were featured on CBC’s Information Morning, and in articles in the Telegraph Journal, the Daily Gleaner, Here magazine and The Brunswickan. Interviews with the speakers were aired on CBC TV’s evening news and on radio stations in Fredericton, Moncton, Saint John and Halifax.
