UNB Traditions and Symbols
Like any institution with a long history, the University of New Brunswick has adopted a number of traditions and symbols that students, staff, faculty and alumni the world over associate with the oldest English-language university in Canada. Some are ours alone, while others, such as academic attire, are shared by other universities.
Learn more about the university mace, seal and coat of arms, the UNB colours, the celebration of Founders' Day, and about graduation traditions such as the academic procession, Encaenia, and academic attire.
We also introduced a new tradition on the occasion of our 225th anniversary: the presentation of a limited edition UNB coin to graduating students.
