UNB Academic Employees Pension Plan
The UNB pension plan for Academic Employees is designed to pay you a monthly income for life after you retire. The amount of pension you eventually receive from the plan depends on your years of service, salary and age at retirement.
The plan is administered by a joint Board of Trustees with equal representation from the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers and the University of New Brunswick. Costs are shared 50-50 between employees and the University, including any ongoing actuarial surplus or deficit. The powers and responsibilities of the Board are set out in the plan's legal documents. The day-to-day operation of the plan is handled by Human Resources.
The topics on the right gives a summary of the UNB plan in simple terms. It isn't a legal document and doesn't cover every detail, but it does give you the basic facts. We have tried to provide an accurate description of your pension benefits. However, if there is a discrepancy between the information in this guide and the legal documents, the legal documents will govern.
UPDATE - October 30, 2013 – Copy of Presentation to Retirees and Holders of Deferred Pensions
The sponsoring Parties to the Pension Plan for Academic Employees of the University of New Brunswick (AEPP) - namely, the University and the Association of University of New Brunswick Teachers (AUNBT) - wish to announce that negotiations between the AUNBT and UNB have resulted in a tentative agreement to convert the AEPP to a Shared Risk Pension Plan ("SRP") under Part II of the Pension Benefits Act. Information sessions are being held next week for retirees and active employees.
Information regarding the agreement has previously been sent to active, retired and deferred pension holding members of the AEPP. Copies of the most recent information sent by UNB can be found here:

AUNBT has been in contact with bargaining unit members directly.

Next week there will be a series of meetings for members of the pension plan to hear about the tentative agreement reached between the AUNBT Pension Committee and the Employer. If you are unable to attend, you may watch either of the Fredericton meetings as a webcast.
After the meetings there will be two days of voting at four locations: Fredericton, Saint John, Bathurst, and Moncton.

Voting shall be by secret ballot, for active members only. Voting may only be done in person, on Thursday, October 31 & Friday, November 1 from 9am-4pm and on Monday, November 4 and Tuesday, November 5 from 10am—3pm at the following locations:
