Function
The Traffic Supervisor is accountable to the Director of Security and Traffic and is primarily responsible for the enforcement of the UNB Motor Vehicle Traffic and Parking Regulations.
Representative Responsibilities
As a first on scene responder and security person, be able to address various situations such as:
• Monitor traffic flow and the usage of various parking lots to maximum safety and utilization.
• Perform traffic enforcement duties by issuing violation tickets and having vehicles towed or immobilized.
• Implement traffic and parking enforcement strategies based on available resources.
• Brief patrol personnel on traffic and parking issues and attend to specific event parking requirements.
• Respond to calls for medical assistance and implement emergency procedures as required.
• Investigate parking related complaints and occurrences, as well as other non-traffic incidents as required, and complete necessary reports.
• Investigate motor vehicle accidents and complete the necessary accident investigation forms.
• Conduct routine mobile security patrols of campus and check and secure buildings as required.
• Access dangerous situations, such as ice build-up on roofs, steps and walkways and have Physical Plant personnel notified for appropriate action.
• Deliver important correspondence and documents to students personally as requested by the Registrar or the University Secretariat.
• Deliver documents from time to time to members of the Board of Governors, as and when requested.
• Monitor campus roads and parking conditions and take action as necessary.
• Assist Student Campus Patrols, City Police, Fire and Emergency Personnel or general public as necessary.
• Provide security for the transportation of monies to bank locations.
• Ensure the patrol vehicle is kept clean, is operating well and serviced regularly.
• Perform other security related duties as required.
Requirements
• High school graduation. In addition, previous security and safety experience is preferred.
• Completion of security related training course(s) and/or, an accreditation from a college/university/justice institute in security/criminology or, a law enforcement organization is desirable.
• Possess a current valid driver’s license along with First Aid, C.P.R and WHMIS certificates and certification must be maintained as a condition of employment.
• Good interpersonal skills and integrity, dependability, tact and diplomacy are essential.
• Excellent comprehension of the English language is essential while oral communication in French is a desirable.
• Excellent knowledge of computers and computer software is preferred. Good mechanical aptitude is preferred.
• The successful candidate will be required to provide a criminal record check.
• The physical demands require the Traffic Supervisor to be physically fit, in good health and mentally alert.
• The UNB Security and Safety Department operate on a 24 hour a day basis during the week requiring the incumbent to work various irregular shifts on a rotating basis.
