Function
The Risk Management Assistant is responsible to the Director, Risk Management and provides administrative support to the Risk Management Steering Committee and the Campus Risk Committees. The Risk Management department serves to advise and direct 130 teaching, research and service departments on all UNB campuses with regards to property, liability insurance and risk management policies and procedures.
Representative Responsibilities
• Record additions and deletions to various insurance policies in departmental records and files including notification of changes to the University’s insurance brokers where required.
• Prepare and maintain complex spread sheets for insurance purposes.
• Maintain department files.
• Facilitate requests for certificates of insurance from Faculties and Departments with brokers and insurers.
• Review certificates of insurance for acceptable coverage and maintain control records for contracts and agreements where proof of coverage is required.
• Assist Director with documentation, analysis and reporting to support applications for placement of insurance coverage and renewal of insurance policies.
• Report, prepare, track and maintain files of insurance claims. Communicate with insurance adjusters as required.
• Assist with the development and be responsible for the maintenance of the University’s risk register.
• Assist with the maintenance of the University’s loss control register.
• Answer inquires with regards to risk management, insurance coverage’s and general policy information.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of the Financial Services risk management web site.
• Assist the Director and Risk Committees as required.
• Occasional back up and support for the Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Comptroller & Treasurer.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Requirements
• High School Diploma, supplemented by formal accounting and/or insurance training.
• Minimum of 2-4 years in a computerized financial environment.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong word processing, power point and spread sheet skills are essential.
• Experience in a large multi-departmental organization is preferable.
• Must be able to deal effectively with faculty, staff, students and external contacts.
• Familiarity with web design and maintenance.
