Function
Reporting to the Superintendent, this position is responsible for corrective and preventative maintenance in the Central Heating Plant (CHP) and tunnel distribution systems.

Representative Responsibilities
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventative and corrective maintenance inspections and repairs.
• Plan, review and perform construction.
• Ensure equipment is maintained operational, reliable, and efficient, and where additional support is required, make recommendations for improving equipment efficiency and reliability.
• Investigate and mitigate equipment failures in the CHP and steam distribution/condensate systems.
• Develop a list of required maintenance items and parts for boiler outages/shutdowns.
• Assist in the planning and coordination of work by providing recommendations as well as material, labour, and equipment estimates, parts/equipment specification, and a schedule of work required.
• Provide knowledge, expertise, and direction to UNB Facilities Management staff, consultants, equipment suppliers and contractors with regard to development and implementation of energy, infrastructure renewal, equipment selection, operating parameters and other projects to be carried out at the CHP or on the steam distribution system to ensure that projects do not negatively affect the operation and maintenance of the CHP and distribution systems.
• Assist and participate in the coordination, development, and maintenance of the CHP lockout program, and any other programs.
• Help ensure the safety of the CHP and tunnel system by working safely, keeping equipment in a safe operating condition, promoting safety to others, conducting safety and other inspections, and other activities.
• Responsible for the application of safety precautions and use of UNB Policies and Procedures, including but not limited to lock out/tag out procedures, asbestos management as well as provincial regulations enforced by Work Safe NB. Complete hot work permits, lockout tag out permits and any other documents as required.
• Responsible for the care of and preservation of assigned tools and equipment.
• As required, provide leadership to, and supervise the work of trades helpers, labourers, and others.
• Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
• Formal basic education as required by the province of NB to meet Journeyman standards for the Industrial Mechanic Trade.
• Must possess a valid and current license to practice in the Industrial Mechanic Trade in NB.
• A NB “Class B” welding certificate would be an asset.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience.
• Ability to work in various physical and environmental conditions including but not limited to: inclement weather, working at heights, confined spaces, cramped spaces, hot ambient conditions, and may also be performed under emergency conditions.
• Knowledge and ability to use the tools and procedures employed in a preventative maintenance program including corrective action and analytical techniques.
• Must be able and willing to adapt to new maintenance techniques, standards, technologies and equipment.
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
