Function

The position will support the execution of the programs and services of UNB Saint John Retention Plan and the conversion and retention initiatives of the Strategic Recruitment Plan. This assistance will focus on administrative, research, and student support. The individual will work closely with, and support specific initiatives of, the Faculty Retention Coordinator, the Registrar and Admissions Office, and the Domestic Recruitment Office.
Representative Responsibilities
• Support the execution of the programs and services of UNB Saint John's Retention Plan. The person selected for this position will provide administrative support for the tactical pillars of the Retention Plan:
• UNIV 1003 (Everything I need to know in First Year): The Officer will support this initiative in the areas of coordinating class visits, to and by the various campus service providers, library services, etc.
• Early Warning Advising Protocol: The Persistence officer will support the Early Warning Advising system by working closely with faculty members and academic advisors participating in the initiative. This will include helping to collect and compile mid-term grade reports from faculty, and forwarding the names of students at risk to advisors. The officer will develop and disseminate communications materials for faculty regarding the project.
• Learning Communities Program: The Officer will support the learning community project by coordinating learning community group visits to the various campus service providers, library services, etc.; working with the Retention Coordinator to identify and select senior students who can become Learning Community Leaders; coordinate their training, and provide support for the LC activities. S/he would also help collect data for assessment on the effectiveness of the project as well as its impact on student persistence.
• Liaise with the UNB Saint John Admissions Office with respect to applications ensuring appropriate hand off.
• Establish, coordinate, and engage in ongoing communication with newly admitted students to increase conversion and reduce attrition
• Work closely with the Registrar's Office to follow up on incomplete and unconfirmed applications to increase conversion, via phone and e-mail
• Track, analyze and report on the effectiveness of the various conversion and persistence activities, tracking and collating student outcomes related to persistence rates and service uptake
Requirements
• Undergraduate degree required
• Minimum 1-3 years' experience in a post-secondary environment. S/he will be data-savvy, student-focused, research-oriented and passionate about student success. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Knowledge of recruitment and admission processes is desirable. Experience with Excel, and word-processing necessary. Experience with Datatel an asset.
