Function
The Student Accessibility Centre serves all 3000 full and part-time graduate and undergraduate students of UNB Saint John and Saint John College. The Student Accessibility Support Co-ordinator will work primarily with the Accessibility Counsellor in providing support services and programs to students and faculty. The Student Accessibility Support Co-ordinator will communicate and liaise with other Student Services staff in order to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to student needs and services. This position will also work closely with faculty, the student’s family (as appropriate) and outside agencies with expertise in disability and education.
Representative Responsibilities
• Working with the Student Accessibility Counsellor, co-ordinate accessibility programs and services for students.
• Working with the Student Accessibility Counsellor, develop process protocols and identify best practices in the post-secondary accessibility field.
• Promote a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere within the Student Accessibility Centre (SAC) and interact and communicate effectively with students with a variety of disabilities.
• Assist on Special Projects relating to Student Accessibility
• Manage a database scheduling system for student tests and exams.
• Communicate with students and instructors regarding tests and examination arrangements.
• Schedule, receive, and print exams to be written at the Student Accessibility Centre.
• Create, manage and maintain an accurate database and pool of peer-note takers.
• Ensure that exam procedures are followed and adherence to University and Student Accessibility Centre regulations are maintained.
• Manage assist and schedule test/exam invigilators.
• Create, manage and update an accurate database of student information and accommodations.
• Manage and maintain the office filing system and Student Accessibility Centre displays and resources
• Answer, respond, direct and take messages for all incoming correspondence (phone calls, e-mails, website inquiries, mail) to the Student Accessibility Centre with courtesy and accuracy.
• Perform general duties such as completing forms, photocopying and faxing.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services and the Accessibility Counsellor.
Requirements
• University degree in education (exceptional learners) or social sciences and a minimum of one year experience or combination of education and experience.
• Ability to prioritize and perform work with minimal supervision.
• Proficient in MS Office.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge and experience of working with post-secondary students with disabilities an asset.
