Function

Under the direction of the Head Law Librarian, the incumbent is responsible for the overall operation of the Gerard V. La Forest Law Library while working evenings, weekends and assigned statutory holidays. Position involves opening and closing the library, circulating materials to library users, providing assistance to users, and supervising student assistants on duty.
 
Hours of work vary during the academic terms depending on the library’s hours of operation. They will range from 19 to 28 hours per week. Regular hours include two weekday evening shifts and shifts on both Saturday and Sunday each week during the academic terms, as well as shifts on those statutory holidays that the library is open.
Representative Responsibilities
• Responsible for the operation/supervision of the library in the absence of senior staff.
• Open/close the library on a regular basis.
• Circulate library materials, including reserve materials, and maintain related records.
• Assist library users in finding information and using equipment.
• Supervise Student Assistants.
• Operate cash register, circulation desk computer, photocopiers, and microform reader/printer.
• Sell debit cards for photocopiers; handle cash and secure cash drawer at closing.
• Shelve new and returned books.
• Reserve carrels and conference rooms for students.
• Issue library cards to new borrowers.
• Contact borrowers regarding overdue or requested materials.
• Process new books and file loose-leaf services as time permits.
• Advise senior library staff as appropriate regarding any difficulties encountered.
• Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
• High school graduation and a minimum of three years’ related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and assigned statutory holidays on a regular basis.
