Function

Reporting to the Manager, Pre-Award Services, Office of Research Services (ORS), the Officer directly assists faculty members in preparing research grant applications to be submitted to NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR and various other funding sources, with the goal of maximizing the university’s success in securing external funding.
Representative Responsibilities
   Review research grant applications and provide constructive feedback on content, writing, presentation and budget formulation.
   Deliver presentations on proposal writing and grant programs.
   Maintain reference material and templates to assist faculty members in preparing applications.
   Maintain a thorough knowledge of the requirements of the university’s funding sources and related university policies and procedures.
   Maintain good working relationships with faculty and academic administrative personnel and is knowledgeable about their respective units.
   Provide accurate data and information appropriate to ORS’s pre-award mandate as required.
   When requested, attends University Standing Review Committee meetings and assists with the preparation of institutional applications.
   Other duties as required.
Requirements
   Successful completion of an undergraduate degree from a recognized university.
   Demonstration of excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and ability to exercise sound professional judgement.
   Experience critically reviewing technical documents for format and content.
   Demonstrated ability to tactfully deal with clientele.
   Computer literacy and demonstration of proficiency in electronic communications and word processing applications, preferably Microsoft Office Suite programs.
   Demonstration of good work habits and organizational and time management skills.
   Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and to manage multiple competing priorities and tight deadlines.
   Experience undertaking academic research an asset.
   Familiarity with tri-council funding of university research an asset.
