The Academic Development Coach will work with students to help them gain an understanding of and focus on their process of learning. Working with individual students and small groups, the Coach will assess learning styles, study habits and barriers to success.  Study skill development and practice will also be reviewed. The outcome will result in a more effective and successful learning strategy leading to better grades and a better overall student experience. The position will work closely with the student body to develop, execute, and support student success and learning at UNB Saint John. This role will be service-driven and multi-faceted requiring the individual to work closely with the writing centre, math centre, library, accessibility office, persistence and conversion officer, and the director of enrolment management, among others.
Representative Responsibilities
·    Meeting with students at all levels to assess learning needs, including working with at-risk/vulnerable students.
·    Working with students to create individualized plans to improve time management, study strategies, goal setting, identifying learning barriers, study plans for upcoming tests and other individualized approaches as determined through student needs assessment.
·    Delivering targeted practical workshops to small groups of students on topics of effective reading, note taking, test-taking, study skills, and other topics as determined through student need assessment.
·    Working to plan content for the campus Learning Community program.
·    Meeting with the staff/faculty and Learning Community Leaders to develop strategies for leading sessions.
·    Oversee the Learning Communities program delivery.
·    Liaison between academic advisors and faculty in administering the Early Alert for Student Success program.
·    Meeting with students who are identified as academically “at-risk”.
·    Working with the Director, Enrolment Management to manage, track, and collate faculty submissions of students identified as potentially-at-risk.

·    Undergraduate degree in education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
·    Experience working with and motivating students at all levels including academically at-risk/vulnerable student.
·    Excellent computer literacy skills (Word, Excel), excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to present to groups.
