Function

This position is accountable to the Coordinator of Teaching & Learning Services within the Centre for Enhanced Teaching & Learning (CETL). The Instructional Designer provides academic, instructional technology, and instructional design services to support the academic mission of the university.
Representative Responsibilities
·    Provide training, and develop professional development resources for faculty members to support technology adoption around the learning management system.
·    Use evidence informed instructional design theory/models to inform best practices for instructors who are designing course material.
·    Encourage the integration of media-rich video and other objects to D2L Brightspace courses in pedagogically effective ways.
·    Develop long-range plans for course enhancements through technology integration.
·    Provide system administration expertise, and technical problem solving needed.
·    Evaluate the effectiveness of course implementations, especially as related to technology integration.
·    Research, advising on and adapting instructional methodologies and assessment strategies in the educational technology context.
·    Provide input to management on educational technology project priority setting.
·    Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
·    Bachelor’s degree. Preference will be given to those with a Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Adult Education, or Educational technology.
·    5 years’ hands-on experience in course design, development and support, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
·    Experience in creating teaching workshops and one-on-one training sessions for instructors.
·    Experience with D2L Brightspace, or other learning management systems.
·    Ability to play a leadership role as well as working constructively and collaboratively in a team environment.
·    Knowledge of instructional theories, learning theories, and best practices in course development.
·    Knowledge of tools within learning management systems, popular usage, and functionalities.
·    Knowledge about and experience in using educational technologies, in particular multimedia tools.
·    Demonstrated project management skills.
·    Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
·    Demonstrated time management, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
