Function

Reporting to the Manager, Research Funds, the Control and Compliance Administrator works with minimal supervision and is responsible for various accounting, control and financial administration and reporting functions relating to research grants, contracts, agreements and control accounts administered by ORS for the Fredericton campus.
Representative Responsibilities
·    Acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of all current University, government and funding agencies’ policies and procedures applicable to the administration of research grants and contracts.
·    Review and approve if appropriate, all transactions on research accounts for Fredericton campus.
·    Flag unusual transactions and bring forward to the attention of the appropriate individuals.
·    Liaise daily with researchers and other administrative personnel regarding research accounts, which may involve matters such as account balances, transactions, external invoices, etc.
·    Monitor and analyze the financial results of research agreement accounts, requiring the use of financial tools.
·    Review and approve all transactions involving salary, revenue or overhead, to ensure required budget adjustments are recorded; the transactions are valid, proper coding is maintained and agreement guidelines honored.
·    Pre-authorize all requests for salary payments against research contract/grant accounts based on a review for eligibility and funding under a strict code of confidentiality.
·    Prepare budget entries based on approved grant, contract or agreement budgets, as well as the regular maintenance and updating of existing budgets on a timely basis.
·    Perform internal reviews to full audit of various programs, types of transactions, or problem accounts to ensure compliance with funding requirements, university policies, government or other regulations.
·    Financial analysis of specific accounts as required. Preparation of cash flow schedules, financial statements, reconciliations, etc. may be required for proper analysis.
·    Assist with UNB’s annual year-end audit by providing auditors with information regarding research related activity for the year, and balances at year end.
·    Train and assist in the supervision of daily activities of student employees.
·    Other related duties as required.
Requirements
·    Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent education and experience.
·    1 to 3 year of relevant experience in a computerized financial environment. Experience in financial analysis.
·    Demonstrated analytical, planning and organizational skills are required.
·    Excellent spreadsheet and computer skills.
·    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
·    Familiarity with the Colleague Financial system and university environment would be an asset.
·    The ability to perform both as a team player and independently is essential.
