The Experiential Education Coordinator reports directly to the Dean and is responsible for the experiential learning activities, which are a vital component of the BPhil degree program. The two major experiential opportunities within the program are the required domestic and international internships. Each are between 10 and 14 weeks in duration and the coordinator is responsible for establishing the internship opportunities, preparing the students for the internships, supervising the students during the internships, and helping the student process the experience during and after the internships.
Representative Responsibilities
·    Developing and maintaining strong relationships with community partners in Canada and abroad to create and enhance safe and exceptional educational experiences. This could include visiting potential partners abroad.
·    Designing the pedagogical content of the internship and mentoring students while on their placements abroad.
·    Organizing and facilitating the preparation and re-entry process which includes providing pre-departure logistical support (flight, insurance, immunization, etc.)
·    Coordinating with other UNB units to ensure students access study abroad and career related resources and expertise.
·    Developing, updating, and implementing policies and procedures pertaining to the international internship program.
·    Mentoring students in their search for internship placements.
·    Planning and organizing community life activities in collaboration with RC Faculty and staff.
·    Providing students with leadership opportunities and mentoring them along the way.
·    Attending community life events and ensuring success of events.
·    Advising the Dean on matters of internships and experiential learning.
·    Identifying areas for development and enhancement of internships and experiential learning.
·    Participating in Renaissance College and UNB committees where appropriate. Collaborating with other members of Renaissance College to fulfill the mission of the college.
·    Assisting with other duties as assigned by the Dean.
·    Master’s Degree in Social Sciences or Humanities with a focus in inter-cultural communication, international development, or experiential education.
·    Experience teaching and mentoring students at the university level, 3 – 5 years’ experience sending students abroad, and experience working with community organizations in Canada and abroad. Experience working or living abroad would be an asset.
·    Outstanding inter-cultural communications skills (another language is an asset).
·    High level of tolerance to change, risk, and uncertainty.
·    Ability to work and make decision under pressure.
