This course will provide an important exposure to hands-on learning at an introductory level, and will be an alternative for students to acquire archaeological and anthropology background. It will be an effective entry into the Anthropology Program and the Archaeology Interdepartmental Program, and will complement the more theoretically oriented material available in other 1000 and 2000 level courses in Anthropology and Classics.
This course offers an overview to the hands-on components of archaeology by providing students with an introduction to experimental archaeology, human material culture, and the archaeological record, and basic archaeological recovery methods. These will be presented in two broad components, one focused on creating and using ancient tools and technology, and exploring past lifeways, and one focused on excavating these with formal archaeological techniques.
