Richard McGaw   2012 President's Medal

An executive member of AUNBT since certification in 1981, Dr. McGaw served as AUNBT President from 1986 to 1989. Most memorably, he served as AUNBT Grievance Chair with few interruptions from 1990 to his retirement in 2011. The  Grievance Chair performs one ofthe  most onerous tasks that exist in our University.  Over his many years in this position, Dr. McGaw dealt with issues that involved high conflict between the parties. It was his professional attire, diplomatic approach, and hard work that took those issues to a friendly resolution, without further harm to our social fabric as a community.

Dr.  McGaw  has  also  been  actively  involved  during  the  negotiation  process  before  many Collective Agreements that are crucial to day·to-day and long term operation ofthe  University of New Brunswick  He has been the Chief Negotiator during 1984 and 1985, and has been the member of the negotiating committee of the AUNBT responsible for financial issues for many years.

During the  last  four  years of  his appointment with the University of  New  Brunswick,  Dr. McGaw undertook the duty of representing our Province as a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Canada. This arduous responsibility did not stop him from carrying out the tasks awaiting him at home in New Brunswick.

In conclusion, Dr. Rick McGaw has been a devoted member of our University community, our Province, and of Canada in its entirety. He has been an example for the young scholars in our University in terms of service.
