Jean Fisher   2011 Distinguished Service Award Recipient

On behalf of the Systems Unit, Office of the Registrar, UNB Fredericton, we are writing to nominate Jean Elizabeth Fisher for a Distinguished Service Award.

Jean’s career at UNB spanned 15 years.  She began in August of 1994 as an Assistant Registrar working from an office in ITS where she was responsible for developing requirements for UNB’s next generation of Student Information System.  She was promoted to Associate Registrar (Admin. Systems & Services) in October 1995 and moved up the hill to the Old Arts where she remained until her retirement in October 2009.  With a background as a teacher and a career at MPHEC Jean brought a wealth of knowledge to both the academic and systems side of her new position.

Under Jean’s leadership, the Registrar’s Office went through many changes, including the implementation of the Datatel Colleague Student System, Online Registration and just prior to her retirement UNB’s new space management system.  Jean’s tireless effort, dedication and her true belief in her staff and their abilities were the driving force behind the Registrar’s Office team. Her support, encouragement and genuine caring attitude, as well as her open door policy made staff feel they could come to her for guidance and direction at any time.

Jean’s dedication to the university could also be seen outside of the Registrar’s Office. She would make herself available for On Campus Registration on Saturday mornings in June and July where she could be seen guiding students and parents alike, her pride in the university evident.

Jean looked forward to Encaenia and Fall Convocation where she filled the role of Faculty Marshal. She loved being a part of the celebration and sharing this special and exciting time with students.

Jean was, and still is very involved with the Campus Ministry and the University Women’s Club.  This fall she could be seen volunteering in one of the Information Kiosks during Frosh Week, handing out advice and support to our first year students.

Jean is a kind and compassionate woman, always the first to lend a helping hand or words of support and encouragement.  She was a wonderful asset to the university and especially the Registrar’s Office where she is sadly missed since her retirement.

Jean has demonstrated dedication and service above and beyond to the university community, and for this reason we are nominating her for a Distinguished Service Award.
