UNB has had a particularly strong tradition in Molecular Spectroscopy research since the early 1960's, the result of a recommendation to the University by Prof. Herzberg on the future direction of the Physics Department. UNB had, and probably still has, one of the largest concentration of spectroscopists, both in Physics and in Chemistry, among Canadian universities. We have world recognized facilities in the optical, infrared and microwave regions of the spectrum and also in theoretical spectroscopy. The tradition continues both in Fredericton and Saint John. We, at the Laser Spectroscopy Laboratory, are a part of this group at the Center for Laser, Atomic and Molecular Sciences (CLAMS).
