The Microscopy and Microanalysis
Facility (MMF) is a research/service centre for electron
and light microscopy, confocal and fluorescence microscopy
and microanalysis. The facility houses three electron-beam
instruments (SEM, TEM/STEM, Electron Probe), a confocal
scanning laser microscope, three digital light microscopes,
and a X-ray micro CT. These instruments are available
to all interested researchers at UNB, other universities,
government agencies or industry. Access to the instrumentation
is on a 'first-come, first-serve' basis and users
pay an hourly rental fee. Users have the option of
operating the equipment themselves or employing the
services of the staff of the MMF.
The MMF offers training on all of
the instruments and in advanced analytical techniques:
EDS,WDS, EELS, EFTEM, electron diffraction, and numerous
specialized sample preparation techniques. Special
lectures in microscopy techniques are offered for
classroom presentations or for groups of interested
researchers upon request.
The staff in the MMF are scientific
technicians with overlapping expertise in microscopy
techniques and specialized knowledge in their respective
field of study covering materials, metallurgy, geology
and biology.
