Mathematics and Statistics Research
UNB’s Mathematics and Statistics department has highly active, externally funded research programs in the areas of pure mathematics, statistics, mathematical biology and dynamical systems, and gravitational physics.
Many of the faculty are internationally recognized for their research contributions, and are often invited participants at major research venues. We host several post-doctoral researchers, as well as established Masters and PhD programs.
Our department is home to the Applied Statistics Centre, which provides statistical consultation for UNB researchers and the community at large, as well as the Centre for Noncommutative Geometry and Topology, which is an international research consortium that includes many renowned mathematicians.
Several of our professors are key members of the mprime Network for Biological Invasions and Dispersal Research and the AARMS Collaborative Research Group on the Mathematical and Physical Aspects of Black Holes. Other faculty are affiliate members of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, one of the leading institutes for the study of fundamental physics in the world.
We are also a member of the Atlantic Computational Excellence Network (ACEnet), which is a consortium of Atlantic Universities dedicated to provided high performance computing facilities to the research community. As such, mathematics and statistics research personnel have access to several world class supercomputing facilities dispersed throughout Canada.
