We want to welcome you to the Faculty of Science! As a first year student to the BSc program it is very important for us to have a chance to interact with you. We want to assist you with an orientation, guidance, and academic advising to start your exciting journey into the study of Science.

Summer Orientation, Advising and Registration:

Saturday, June 1, 2013 or Saturday, July 6, 2013

As a first year science student attending one of the Summer Orientation, Advising and Registration days is one of the best ways to get your university career off to a good start and gain valuable information for your "first-year experience".

Take advantage of this opportunity to:

  • Meet your professors
  • Get personalized academic advising
  • Register early for the best course selection
  • Complete your timetable before class start
  • Familiarize yourself with the campus
  • Meet the Peer Mentors who can help you access services
  • Meet your fellow students
  • Get your UNB Student ID card

For students unable to attend either date of Summer Orientation and Advising no worries. Science has set up a number of other options to complete your course selection for the upcoming September. Fall Orientation Week:

Saturday, August 31, 2013 - Saturday, September 7, 2013

This is where you will make new friends, get to know the Science faculty, professors and meet key UNB support people. This week-long event is campus-wide with many social events and plenty of opportunity for assistance with academic planning and course registration.

 

Faculty Orientation Days:

Tuesday, September 3 & Wednesday, September 4, 2013

All first year students should attend Academic Orientation Days. This is a valuable time to get acquainted with your science community and participate in activities that will give you tools essential to your academic success.

First Day of Class:

Thursday, September 5, 2013

All first year students are expected to attend the first schedule day of class on Thursday, September 5, 2013. Class will begin at 9:00am in Toole Hall, Lecture Theatre Room 3.

  • UNB Commencement Ceremony
  • Peer Mentor Q & A Session
  • Science Luncheons (Students, Faculty, Staff, Peer Mentors, and SU Representatives)
  • Science Activities
  • Math Placement Test
  • "The Science Express" Amazing Race
  • Lecture
  • Readings
  • Group Work
  • First Year Instructors Q & A Session

Academic Assistance During The Year

The Assistant Deans of Science are available throughout the year to assist you with any concerns, questions, or guidance you may need during your studies here at UNB. You can attend an advertised advising session, pre-arrange an appointment, or drop-in to the Science Students Services Office. Our office is located in Room S118, in the Science Concourse beside the Science Library. The office is open from 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday.
