Welcome to the Outreach Site for the Department of Chemistry at UNB
Toole Hall
The Department of Chemistry at The University of New Brunswick is extensively involved in the community through our outreach programs. These programs include, but are not limited to, bringing high school students to our laboratories to perform experiments, going to local high schools to help student with chemistry projects, and going to local schools to perform chemistry demonstrations. Our outreach activities have involved Fredericton High School, Leo Hayes High School, Oromocto High School, Southern Victoria High School and McAdam High School, and organizations like Science East.
Renovated Labs
The four main undergraduate laboratories in Toole Hall have been recently renovated. Not only are the new labs bright and uncluttered with an almost unobstructed view of the entire room, they are also equipped with modern ventilations systems. Our two first-year chemistry laboratories can accomodate almost one hundred students, and each student group has access access to either a ventilation snorkel or a fumehood. The two upper-year chemistry laboratories provide full fumehoods for each student group due to the more intricate chemistry that is performed in these laboratories. Two full eyewash and safety shower setups are included in each laboratory. We are proud of these modern laboratories, and we want to make public and high school students in New Brunswick aware of the modern facilities that are available in our department.
Please take a look around this site, and do not hesitate to contact us if you are either interested in participating in an outreach event in our department, or if you are interested in pursuing chemistry as a career. Documents that are available for outreach experiments are included here, and we are always developing new experiments for outreach.
