Larry Calhoun, Ph.D.My research program involves identifying bioactive natural products, investigating the structure of their protein biological targets, and studying the interaction of these proteins with their bioactive ligands. The long term goal of this research program is to determine the basis of the bioactivity of natural products at the structural level. As a starting point, two areas of interest are being investigated: 1) the exploration of endophytic fungi as a source of bioactive natural products and 2) the identification of the important protein-ligand interactions between huperzine A analogues and butyrylcholinesterase.
