Message From The Dean
Welcome to the UNB Fredericton Faculty of Science!
Science is a vast, challenging and rewarding field with many opportunities for a fulfilling career. The complex world of the sciences might baffle you at the outset as you plan your path of study -- the list of options is long.
However, there is one constant within the Faculty of Science at UNB that will serve you well. That constant is the willingness of faculty members to work closely with you, providing sound advice so you make the right choices to reach your career goal. This is important when you consider there are 23 different degree program options within the Faculty of Science at UNB.
UNBF Science is the largest and most comprehensive Science Faculty in New Brunswick. Our broadly-based research capacity of international caliber continues to strengthen with the addition of Canada Research Chairs and funding commitments for multidisciplinary research programs. We enjoy solid links with our community, government and private sector laboratories, and national/international institutions. We commit ourselves to maintaining the high caliber of teaching and research, to be approachable and relevant, and to retain the broad-based foundation that permits interdisciplinary collaboration.

As our graduates say:
"My science degree from UNB has opened a lot of doors for me. I can choose to pursue a variety of career options. I'm proud to say I earned my degree from UNB -- it's a first-class campus in terms of the layout, the atmosphere, the scenery. The labs and other facilities in the Faculty of Science are good and the professors make you feel at home, like you're really part of the department." David McTimoney, Graduate
"Studying science at UNB was an incredible experience! It's small enough for you to feel comfortable, and the professors are really approachable. They give you excellent advice. I found the flexibility and variety in the Science program appealing. It gave me a good, broad foundation in my education." Richard Owen Phillips, Graduate
As we are all aware, the world is constantly changing and much of it at an ever increasing pace. For instance, could anyone have imagined that in the last 40 years we would be able to walk on the moon, "Google" any subject from anywhere at anytime, or to be able to talk to anyone, anywhere on the planet while being mobile? What changes are on the horizon? What changes are still in their evolutionary stages? At UNB our mission is to help you understand and appreciate many of these changes. We know that your degrees will be important tools as you tackle the challenges produced by these and other changes. Your degrees will give you the intellectual foundations you will need to make sense of what is going on, not just in the world around you here but in the global world.
If you are planning on studying Science at UNB, I urge you to take advantage of the wealth of experience and knowledge resting amongst the professors here. Ultimately, education is your responsibility. No one can read, reflect, question or ponder for you. You, and only you, do your learning; do it well and you will enjoy the full benefits of a college education.
