Bridges House
About the House
Bridges house was established in 1962 and was named in memory of Henry Seabury Bridges who had a B.A, M.A., PH.D., LL.D and was a Classics Professor at the University. Bridges House is about creating a fun and safe environment to live in while away at university, not to mention to create an excellent environment to learn in.
House Charity
The House performs various fundraising activities throughout the year in order to raise money for the IWK, but the most prominent and well known event is the yearly Polar Dip. People not only from Bridges but the other Residences and the UNB Community collect pledges to jump in the outdoor pool in the middle of February. The pool is set up a few days prior to the jump so that it has time to freeze before the 80-some people jump in, in groups of four. Last year, the House had raised over $7,000 for the IWK.
Fun Fact
Every year, as part of our welcoming ceremony in September, residents take turns jumping into a kiddie pool symbolizing our favourite, biggest, and most looked-forward to event, Polar Dip.
