Aitken House

About the House

Founded in 1958, Aitken House was the second residence built on campus, is the only remaining Male Residence at UNB. Named in honour of Sir Max Aitken, Lord Beaverbrook, the Men of Aitken have been contributing positively to campus life for well over 50 years. Throughout the years, the Men of Aitken have formed a close brotherhood which can still be seen today.

House Charity

The Men of Aitken have two house charities, Canadian Blood Services and AIDS NB. Our residents have contributed to many charity functions over the last few years and every year hold several blood drives, participate in Shinerama and the Fredericton AIDS walk, in which they regularly have the most participants.

Fun Facts:

  • The Man of Aitken award is the most prestigious award in residence. It is given to someone who shows leadership, caring for his fellow residents, and friendship; it is an honour to win this award and be called "A true Man of Aitken".

  • After deciding that a Club Med getaway was way out of student's budgets, Aitken House residents brought the beach to the house instead, and a tradition was born. Every year, the men of Aitken House truck sand into the basement for the Club Med party, in what has become one of the most anticipated events on campus.
