What to Bring

Rooms are furnished with beds, bureaus, bookshelves, desks and chairs. Pillows are provided but you must bring all other bedding (sheets, pillow cases, quilt/duvet, etc.) for a TWIN BED (traditional Residences) or DOUBLE BED (Suite Style) as well as your own towels. Other useful items or decorations include:

  • desk lamp
  • fused power bars (not extension cords)
  • small rug or carpet
  • alarm clock or clock radio
  • message or memo board for your door
  • posters ("sticky tack"only, no tacks, pins or nails)
  • some pots, plastic dishes and cutlery plus plastic (not glass) mugs
  • soap and quarters for washers /dryer
  • some formal clothes

 

Appliances:

Please note the following information is intended for students entering our traditional residences only. All students entering the Suite Style residence should double check the Suite Style Page to verify what amenities are included in the kitchen and bathrooms of each suite.

Please coordinate appliances with your roommate to avoid duplication and lost space in the room.

  • Phones: Rooms have telephones with the cost included in the residence fees but long distance calls cannot be billed to these phones. For long distance, you will need a calling card which, if needed, you can arrange on-campus during Orientation Week.
  • Computers & TV's: Each House has a lounge with cable TV and a computer room but personal TVs, VCRs/DVD Players and computers are welcome. All houses have ResNet with computer connections and cable TV in each student room plus a computer lab (except for LBR, which does not have a house computer lab)
  • Fridges: Only mini fridges (max. 5.2 cu. ft. / 0.15 cu.m.) are permitted.
  • Stereos: Stereos are permitted but acceptable noise levels must be respected.
  • Microwaves: Several houses have communal microwaves but personal ones are welcome.
  • Electric "hotpots" with internal imbedded heating elements are permitted.

What NOT to Bring

  • extension cords (fused power bars ok)
  • any open flame or candles. Candles in glass containers are permitted if flame is well below top of container
  • milk crates (toxic in fire) but plastic bins approved for home use ok.
  • used couches or chairs unless certain that pest free
  • loft or bunk beds but approved beds can be rented from UNB
  • explosives, fireworks, ammunition, fire arms or any weapons
  • pets, other than tropical fish
  • appliances with exposed Heating Elements (toasters, toaster-ovens, hotplates, etc.).
  • air conditioners or electric heaters

Room Size, etc.:

When planning what to bring, please remember that typical room dimensions are Double Room: 12ft. x 15 ft. (3.7m x 4.6m) & Single Room: 10 ft. x 12 ft. (3.1m x 3.7m).
