Internships

You will complete two mentored, full-term, leadership-focused internships over the course of your studies at Renaissance College.

The first takes place in Canada during your third semester and focuses on leadership in the work environment. The second internship brings you abroad during your sixth semester and is designed as a cross-cultural learning experience.

Both internships nurture your ability to critically engage with the world and explore the many different ways that you can contribute as professionals and citizens.

Canadian internship

This is full-time paid or volunteer placement of 10 to 16 weeks in an organization located in Canada.

The internship allows you to observe leadership in action and apply your own leadership skills in a specific work environment, whether it is in a corporation, government department or a non-profit organization.

This opportunity to apply knowledge and skills with guidance from a mentor will help you relate theory to practice with valuable work experience.

You will gain insight into a specific field of work and test your interest and aptitude for a future career. With the support of a dedicated internship coordinator, you will select your placement and set your own learning goals.

Assignments are designed to enable you to apply your academic knowledge and critical thinking skills in a work environment while enhancing your professional development.

International internship

Our international internship is a cross-cultural educational experience where you will travel in small groups to a country where the culture differs significantly from your own.

For a period of 10 to 16 weeks, you will immerse yourself in a community, in some cases living with host families, and engage in community work with local non-profit organizations.

Your work can be related to:

  • human rights
  • environment
  • sustainable community development
  • arts and culture
  • social entrepreneurship
  • leadership
  • gender
  • education
  • health

We do not expect you to lead projects but to contribute to a community effort led by our partners in order to observe and learn from local people and communities.

Take part in people’s lives

You will have the opportunity to create strong relationships based on the values of equality, respect and reciprocity.

These new relationships could lead to a genuine appreciation of the vibrancy and resilience of the community and open up new possibilities and alternatives to make the world a better place.

It is also an opportunity for you to learn more about yourself and your own culture. The international internship includes a strong preparation phase as well as a re-entry process.

We select each placement carefully for the quality of the educational experience and its safety.
