Admission process

To be considered for admission to the Bachelor of Nursing program the following documentation is required:

  • application form
  • official transcript of marks from high school and/or any community college or university courses
  • a brief summary or life sketch to include:
          (a) major experiences and important decision points in your life
          (b) the reason(s) you have chosen nursing as a career
          (c) your reason for choosing the BN program at UNB
  • Faculty of Nursing supplementary forms

The language of instruction within the UNB Fredericton Nursing program is English and prospective students whose native language is not English will be required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission. Prospective students may prove English language proficiency in one of the following ways:

1. Minimum TOEFL (paper based) score of 600

2.  Minimum TOEFL (IBT) score of 100

3.  Minimum IELTS score of 7.0

4.  Equivalent results of a UNB approved standardized proficiency tests. 

In all cases, the Faculty reserves the right to require further proof of language proficiency before permission will be granted to register in academic courses.

It is recommended that applications be received by the end of January.  However, completed applications and fees must be submitted no later than March 31st to:

Upon acceptance to the BN program, the following additional documentation will be requested:

  • Current immunization record. Please refer to the following policy for further information.
  • Current CPR certification (Basic Rescuer - Level C)
  • Criminal Record check
  • Suicide Intervention Certification (before beginning year 2)
