IVAN C. RAND LECTURE and LAW WEEK

The UNB Faculty of Law invites you to the annual Ivan C. Rand Lecture, to be given by Professor Mary Condon on February 21st at 5:30 p.m., in the Mary Louise Lynch Room of Ludlow Hall, UNBF. The title of Professor Condon’s lecture is “A Discipline in search of Itself? Contemporary Challenges for Securities Law in Canada." The lecture is open to the public and will be followed by a reception in the Student Lounge.
Professor Mary G. Condon is a graduate of the University of Dublin (B.A.) and the University of Toronto (M.A., LL.M., S.J.D.). She is currently Professor of Law at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University, where she has served on faculty since 1992, and a member and Vice Chair of the Ontario Securities Commission. Her scholarly expertise spans securities regulation, mutual fund governance, and pension regulation, as well as feminist legal theory. Her current teaching is focused in the securities field, both in the J.D. and LL.M. programs.
Professor Condon is the author of numerous publications. Highlights include Business Organizations: Principles, Policies and Practice (2007)(co-author); Securities Law in Canada: Cases and Commentary (2005)(co-author); and Making Disclosure: Ideas and Interests in Ontario Securities Regulation (1998). In addition, she has written or co-authored over a dozen book chapters and law review articles in recent years. Her work has appeared in the University of British Columbia Law Review, the Queen’s Law Journal, the Osgoode Hall Law Journal, and the Canadian Business Law Journal, among others. A much sought after speaker by the academy and bar alike, she has presented her work to audiences in Canada, the United States, England, and Australia. In winter 2009, Professor Condon was the Owen Chair in Business law at the University of British Columbia.

The school’s most prestigious in-house moot. Third year students Mark Vernon, Shyne Victoria, Ines Florina and Katherine Lewis will argue a case before the Supreme Court of Ludlow Hall. Judges this year are St. Thomas University President Dawn Russell, local practitioner R. Bruce Eddy, Q.C. and Rand Lecturer Professor Mary Condon, Osgoode Hall Law School.
