Public Lecture: Journey to Equality
Journey to Equality: The New Brunswick Human Rights Commission and the UNB Faculty of Law will be co-sponsoring a free public lecture on Thursday, April 16 at 7:00 p.m.. The lecture will be in Room 2A of Ludlow Hall, UNBF.
In 2001, Rev. Dr. Brent Hawkes, C.M., officiated at the world's first legal same-sex marriages, in Toronto.
In this free lecture, he will speak of his personal and spiritual struggle growing up gay in rural New Brunswick, linking it to self-discovery, political activism and his historic role in the legal recognition of same-sex marriages.
In addition, Dr. Karen Pearlston, UNB Law School, will speak of the struggle for LGBT rights in Canada.
A question and answer period will be moderated by CBC reporter Barbara Roberts.
