Employment Opportunity: Dean of Law
Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of New Brunswick (UNB) for a term beginning July 1, 2010. The appointment is for a five-year term and may be renewed.
The Faculty, founded in 1892, offers the LLB degree and an LLB/MBA program in a distinctly supportive and collegial environment. A small faculty, with 230 students from across Canada and abroad, UNB Law is highly ranked in national law school surveys. Graduates and friends have provided the Faculty with substantial endowments to support the library, student scholarships and faculty research. UNB graduates have served and serve on the bench in the Supreme Court, the Federal Court, and in eight provinces, and are leaders in the bar and in public service.
The Faculty is committed to effective and responsive law teaching and professional formation. Faculty members engage in a broad array of research projects, with internal and external funding, and contribute to the Centre for Property Studies, the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research, the NRC-IIT Centre for e-Business and to graduate programs outside the Faculty. Students initiate and support a variety of events to enhance the civic life of the Faculty and the community, including substantial philanthropy. The Faculty is home to the University of New Brunswick Law Journal, a student-produced annual law review.
The Dean, reporting to the Vice-President (Academic), is responsible for the supervision and administration of academic programs, the law library and the Faculty budget. The Dean provides leadership to the Faculty and within the broader university community, fosters the positive relationship which the Faculty enjoys with the legal profession, and encourages student participation in, and contributions to, learning beyond the classroom. Candidates will have administrative skills, a strong record of teaching and scholarship, and a commitment to facilitating institutional growth and development.
The Faculty of Law is on the Fredericton campus of UNB (http://law.unb.ca) in the capital city of New Brunswick (http://www.fredericton.ca), situated on the beautiful St. John River. UNB has a rich history and a legacy of excellence and makes a significant difference to economic, social and cultural development in New Brunswick and around the world.
